Philosophy
One-to-one teaching provides the opportunity to customize curriculum plans that take into account each student’s personality, interests, and goals. For every student, my goal is to teach holistic, well-rounded musicianship that equips them for musical autonomy. Lessons include theory, improvisation, and composition in addition to technical skills and standard repertoire. I enjoy working in multiple genres and learning music in the context of its culture and history.
Students learn best when they love what they do. Piano lessons should be fun, motivational, and confidence-building. For young children, I teach music through games, play, and songs. In the middle school and high school years, I aim to give students a wide breadth of knowledge of music so they can take ownership of their learning and form a personal identity as as a musician.
Music education should not be reserved for the affluent or be limited exclusively to classical music. If you are interested in lessons and would like information on resources for accessing pianos, keyboards, or affordable lessons, contact me.
